Greetings Albert Lea Figure Skate Club.

My name is Karen Rothgery but my skaters call me Miss Karen. I am excited to be a part of your coaching staff and your club. I spent the last 10 years training, testing, and competing with the Figure Skating Club of Fort Collins, in Colorado. I am currently training with the St. Paul Figure Skate Club in Minnesota. I am working on testing my Novice moves and training to compete at Adult Nationals 2012. Adult Nationals is nothing like the nationals you see on TV. It is intended for the older skater who wants to continue to skate competitively. I have already competed at Regional, Sectional and National events. I continue training, attend many seminars, training camps and PSA events in an effort to further not only my skating but to bring that knowledge to my students. My husband Glen and I live in Oakland, MN with our two dogs Tisha and Gomez.

My Motto: Skate Hard and Play Hard

In 2007 I began coaching as a secondary coach. My focus was Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, and Intermediate skaters. As a secondary coach, I take my direction from the head coach. My primary job was to help skaters master their single jump, jump combos and work on multiple revolution jumps. I am looking forward to working with skaters on other aspects of skating testing, training, and choreography. I am also looking forward to getting back to the basics with the basic skills program. Every great skater knows the value of strong foundation of basic skills.

My name is Kelsey Boyd and I am very excited to be back in the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club as a coach. I skated for the club from 1993 until 2002 when I graduated from high school. My favorite memories of the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club were competing in Omaha, Duluth, and Rochester, improving my skills through testing, and the highlight of the year, our annual skating show. In high school, I was an instructor for the Albert Lea Learn To Skate program as well as an assistant instructor for Just For Kix. While attending the University of Minnesota, I coached the sideline and competition cheerleading teams for Maple Grove Senior High School and was a head instructor for the Richfield/Bloomington Just For Kix dance program. I received my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of St. Thomas and am now a 5th grade teacher in Albert Lea. I am looking forward to a great season of figure skating!
